You have one of two coding options when coding verbatim terms in EDC:
CRF Coding built in Rave
Medidata Coder™ Dictionary coding
In the Medidata Coder™ Dictionary coding, a verbatim on a form is marked as Requires Coder Coding and sent to Coder for a coding decision. When Coder returns a coding decision to Rave, the field automatically updates with the Coder response information.
The CRF Coding feature is a medical dictionary browser in EDC. You can:
Search for medical terms
Search through all hierarchical terms
Code at the point of data entry
Automatically find a match for the verbatim terms in the thesaurus associated with medical terms within standardized dictionaries.
You can view, manually code, recode, or
modify verbatims entered on a form if you have the Can
Code Role Action. Fields on the form that require coding display
a Requires Coding status icon
together with a Dictionary
Coding window icon
.
The ability to view coded results is available only to users with Can Code or See
Coded Data Role actions.
Note: If you do not have the
Can
Code role action,
you can see the verbatim but cannot see the Dictionary Coding icon .
You can use auto-coding, or user coding, or both, while adhering to regulatory standards. In Auto coding, the system automatically finds an exact match for the verbatim term in the thesaurus upon form submission. In User coding, the user has the option to manually enter a term using specified dictionaries and versions of dictionaries.
