The icon hierarchy rules within Rave EDC remain the same whether you are referencing a specific field, form, folder, or subject. In general, the icon that displays depends on a combination of the following:
The icon status hierarchy
Your role permissions
As one goes up the levels, that is, to a field to form to folder, the status icon that displays depends on which status takes precedence over another as the statuses are rolled up. In addition, the status icons that appear in Rave are based on the permissions for your role. For example, your role may have permissions to perform actions such as:
Entry - you can enter and edit data
Translate - you can create translations of forms or fields into another language
Code - you can code data you have entered using coding dictionaries on fields that have been associated with such dictionaries
Lock - you can hard lock any field or form, preventing any further changes
Open Query - you can open a new query on a field or form for a certain Marking Group
Answer Query - you can answer queries that have been entered for a certain Marking Group
Verify - you can verify data requiring source data review.
Certain status icons display only if you have permission to perform
the actions associated with the status. For instance, if you do not have
the Code Role permission, you
will not see the Requires Coding status icon . If
you do not have the Verify permission,
you will not see the Requires Verification or Pending for Verification
status icons
.
The following table illustrates the status hierarchy in the EDC module:
Note: The
icons shown in the table are data status icons. You can apply it
to any level of the system that you have access to. For example, a non-conformant
field on a form for a particular subject on the subject page displays
the Subject Non-Conformant icon .

A form has 5 fields with the following statuses:
1 Non Conformant
3 Entered Complete
1 Is Overdue
Since status icons are rolled up, the status
icon highest in the hierarchy takes precedence over the others. In
this case, the form icon is .
If the form is the only form within a folder,
the folder icon is .
If there is more than one form within a folder, the form with the icon appearing highest in the icon hierarchy will take precedence and the folder status icon displays that status.
A folder has 5 forms with the following statuses:
1 Read only Answered Query
3 Requires Translation
1 Locked
In this case, the folder icon is .
If the folder is the only folder for a given
subject, the subject icon is .
If there is more than one folder for a given subject, the folder with the icon appearing highest in the icon hierarchy will take precedence and the Subject status icon displays that status.
If you do not have permission to perform an action associated with a certain status, for example, Code, Verify, Translate, the corresponding status icons, Requires Coding, Requires Verification or Requires Translation will not display. For example:
A folder has 5 forms with the following statuses:
1 Read Only Open Query
2 Requires Translation
2 Incomplete
If you have Entry,
Translate, and Answer
Query permissions, the Read Only
Open Query status will take precedence over the other two statuses
associated with forms in this folder, and the corresponding icon displays.
However, if you are not authorized to perform any operations with queries,
but have the Translate permission,
the Requires Translation
status
icon will display for this form as the highest status icon in the hierarchy
associated with an action that you have access to. If you do not have
permission to translate or to perform any query actions, the Incomplete
icon
displays.
At the form level, the action that you must take has a higher priority over the icon hierarchy.
A form has three fields with the following statuses:
1 Open Query
1 Locked
1 Requires Verification
In this example, the roll-up of Open
Query, Locked, and Requires Verification behave differently
than the other statuses in the icon hierarchy. In the case of Open
Query and Locked status,
the Locked status does not roll
up to the folder, form, or subject level even though Locked
is the highest status in the icon hierarchy. The Open
Query icon displays at the form
level so that you know you have an action to take.
Note: Non-Conformant
is the highest status in the icon hierarchy. Regardless of other statuses
on the form, if there is a non-conformant field on the form, the Non-Conformant
icon displays at the form, folder, and subject level.
