There are various mechanisms for getting clinical data into and out of the Medidata Rave® platform. Examples for data entry include web-based forms through EDC, synchronized data acquisition through Remote, and the loading of 3rd party data from flat ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) laboratory files or CDISC (Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium) XML (eXtensible Markup Language) data. Conversely, users may see clinical data in Medidata Reports or SAS (Statistical Analysis System) exports. Regardless of how data is being acquired or reviewed, clinical data is handled using a single conserved set of objects. While understanding the inner workings of these software objects is not necessary for most end users, study designers should at least have a grasp of what they do conceptually to aid in decision making while working in the Architect module.
